Veterans Day in New York City is November 11. It commemorates the end of World War I, “the war to end all wars,” on November 11, at 11:11 am, in 1918.
The Veterans Day Parade is New York City’s big Veterans Day celebration.
Latins Have Served in Every American War
The saying is that Latins fought in every American war since the Revolutionary War. But Latins are Indigenous and Black too, so we fought in the Revolutionary War too.
Latins make up 17% of active-duty members in 2022, mostly in the Marine Corps. There are around 1.3 million Latin veterans. By 2045, this number is projected to grow by 50%.
There have been over 60 Hispanic Medal of Honor winners.
Puerto Ricans in the Military
The percentage of Puerto Ricans in the military is higher than for Americans in general. Even though Puerto Ricans fight and die for America, we have no vote and no representation in Congress. Let’s correct that. 🇵🇷
The 369th Infantry Regiment, better known as “The Harlem Hellfighters” had many Puerto Ricans in it. James Reese Europe’s marching band introduced American jazz to France. They loved it.
Mexican Americans in the Military
Fort Hood, Texas has been renamed Fort Cavazos, for the Mexican American four-star general who led the 65th Regiment, the U.S. Army’s only all-Hispanic regiment, nicknamed the “Borinqueneers” for its brave Puerto Rican soldiers, during the Korean War. 🇲🇽 🇵🇷
