Things to do in NYC in February 2025 include many Black History Month celebrations. The City gets back into it’s rhythm after catching its breath from the holidays. Popular February events include: New York Fashion Week, NYC Restaurant Week, NYC Broadway Week, and NYC Off-Broadway Week.
The first week of February is the cheapest time to visit New York City with lots of deals on travel, hotels, food, and events. February weather is late winter. New York City’s snowiest month is still a great time to visit. You just have to plan where you are going because it may be cold outside and slushy after storms. Wear a jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves, so you can layer. Wear boots for walking in slush.
The February national holiday is the long Presidents Day Weekend on February 14-17, 2025. Valentines Day is a popular festival on Friday, February 14, 2025. NYC Schools Midwinter Recess is Feb 17-21, 2025.

MONTH
- February is Black History Month. It’s an important month in the African Diaspora because many famous African Americans were born in February, but also because the Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria on February 2 celebrates the patron saint of the African Diaspora, and because Carnival which is usually in February (March in 2025), used to be the only time the Diaspora was allowed to celebrate its own heritage traditions.

“La gringa” is a classic comedy (28 years in repertory) about a New York Puerto Rican who visits the island and thinks she knows everything Boricua. “Ay bendito.” Editor KíkoKí: Honestly, I once made the same mistake in reverse. I thought I could understand my New York Puerto Rican audience by living in Puerto Rico. It doesn’t work that way. We live differently in New York than we do on the island. By Carmen Rivera, directed by René Buch at Repertorio Español in Kips Bay, Manhattan; on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11am. 🇵🇷
“La breve y maravillosa vida de Oscar Wao,” is Marco Antonio Rodríquez’ adaptation of Junot Díaz’ Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about a New Jersey Dominican college kid who dreams of becoming a writer and finding love, but fears that he suffers from the fukú curse, a legacy of the Dominican colonizers. Its at Repertorio Español in Kips Bay, Manhattan; on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11am. In Spanish with subtitles. 🇩🇴
This is astute commentary on what it means to be Dominican today. The Dominican Republic is an island of contrasts, rich and poor, modern and ancient. It claims to be European, but is actually more African and Indigenous Taíno. So for a modern Dominican to be worried about a curse might not make sense to you, but makes perfect sense to many Dominicans.
“La llamada” (The Call) is Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo’s musical coming-of-age comedy about two Spanish teenagers who love reggaeton and Spanish pop music. At Christian summer camp, one has life-changing visions of God singing Whitney Houston songs. Directed by Rafa Sánchez with a live band. In Spanish with subtitles at Repertorio Español in Kips Bay, Manhattan; on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 8pm, and Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 3pm. 🇪🇸
