Repertorio Español is New York City’s Spanish-language repertory theatre. It is one of the most successful Off-Broadway theaters. Many productions are adaptations of classic Hispanic literature, but there is also new work, comedy, and flamenco. Repertorio presents many shows during weekdays. Some can be streamed from its website. Subtitle translations enable English speakers to enjoy most productions too. It’s a great place to take your Spanish-speaking family, and learn about Hispanic theatre and literature.

About Repertorio Español
Founded by New York Cubans in 1968, Repertorio Español produces Spanish-language theatre from literary classics and some new stories, with occasional comedy and flamenco.
The black box theater with minimal staging is really a writer’s, director’s, and actor’s theatre. It’s both a showcase and training ground. Some of the performers are well-known actors, and some are starting their theatre careers. The repetition of working in repertory helps actors, directors, playwrights, and producers develop their craft.
In season, Repertorio often performs six days a week, with many daytime performances. In summer, it performs on weekends.

This is astute commentary on what it means to be Dominican today. The Dominican Republic is an island of contrasts, rich and poor, modern and ancient. It claims to be European, but is actually more African and Indigenous Taíno. So for a modern Dominican to be worried about a curse might not make sense to you, but makes perfect sense to Dominicans.
