J’ouvert NYC 2024 is a New York Carnival daybreak celebration organized by the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
J’ouvert is a daybreak festival derived from French influences in Trinidad Carnival. People throw paint or oil on themselves and each other, and basically have a good time.
J’ouvert NYC 2024
The Brooklyn community celebrates J’ouvert on its own, and in some years there are commercial parties. If you are not from the community, wait until dawn (6am) to join the celebrations. J’ouvert has been safe in recent years, but there have been problems in the past during the night. Be safe so we can all have a great J’ouvert.
NYC’s J’ouvert Parade 2024, the main event of J’ouvert NYC 2024, marches from Nostrand Ave at Midwood St, to Empire Blvd, into Prospect Park, to Grand Army Plaza in Crown Heights, Brooklyn; on Labor Day Monday, September 2, 2024, at 6am. 🇹🇹
To join the Parade, you must pass through NYPD security. The Parade route is supposed to be lit with NYPD officers present.

Carnival is a reversal festival. Watch out for the jab jabs, men in horns with their bodies smeared in oil or paint. They are role-playing evil slave masters and may try to scare you.
