Jamhuri Day is Kenya Independence Day.
Jamhuri Day
Kenya regained its independence from Great Britain on December 12, 1964. “Jamhuri” means “republic” in Swahili, the main language of Kenya.
The Mau Mau uprisings of the 1950s led to increased self-government, and ultimately the restoration of independence.
In Kenya and the Diaspora, people celebrated with feasts, dancing, and parades.
