The world celebrates International Tango Day or World Tango Day on December 11, the birthdays of both iconic tango singer, French Argentine Carlos Gardel (Toulouse, France; December 11, 1890), and early tango composer Julio de Caro (Buenos Aires, Argentina; December 11, 1899).
International Tango Day
In Argentina, it’s Día Nacional del Tango (National Tango Day).
Tango is an African folkloric dance of Uruguay and Argentina that is based on danzón, the Cuban form of French contradance or English country dance. Outside Cuba it was called La Habanera, meaning the way people dance in La Habana (Havana). Both tango and salsa have the habanera in them. Both have six steps in their basic form. Salsa is danced in a line or a circle. Tango is danced in a box.
