Handel’s Messiah is a European Christmas tradition.
Handel was a German-British composer, but classical music has Italian roots and during the medieval period most music was church music in the Roman Catholic church. Christmas is the world’s most popular Latin holiday.
Trinity Church hosted one of the first performances of Handel’s Messiah in the United States in 1770.
In 2018, the New York Times said this is New York City’s best Messiah.
