Film Forum Screens Classic and International Film

Film Forum is a non-profit independent cinema in Hudson Square (West SoHo), Manhattan.

Curation by and for film fans makes Film Forum one of NYC’s great places to see classic movies and international film.

There are often classic children’s films on weekends. Many are about New York City.

When we go, we stay for two or three movies in a row. The curation is that good.

There are bars across the street where you can grab a quick meal.

“Birds of Passage” (2018) by Ciro Guerra and Cristina Gallego is a crime drama set in Colombia’s Indigenous Wayuu community. 🇨🇴

“Cielo” (2017), by Alison McAlpine, lights the heavens over Chile’s Atacama Desert. 🇨🇱

“The Heiresses” (2019), by Marcelo Martinessi, is a Paraguayan coming of age story of a 60-year old woman. 🇵🇾

“The Human Voice,” by Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, explores loss in English. 🇪🇸

“I am Cuba” (1964), by Mikhail Kalatozov, is a classic Soviet film of old Cuba. The opening shot is epic. 🇨🇺

New York International Children’s Film Festival is an Oscar-qualifying children’s film festival.

“The Silence of Others” (2018) by Almudena Carracedo and Bahar, asks what happens when crimes against humanity go unpunished. 🇪🇸

“West Side Story” (1961) launched some acting legends, but also promoted some negative stereotypes. 🇵🇷

“When Two Worlds Collide” (2016), by Heidi Brandenburg and Mathew Orzel, documents the clash between the Peruvian government and its Indigenous Amazonian people. 🇵🇪
