NYCFC 2017
2017 NYCFC Playoffs
NYCFC secured its direct place in the MLS Cup Playoffs with a draw against the Columbus Crew on the very last game of the season.
NYCFC made it to the Conference Semi-Finals before bowing out to the Columbus Crew 4-3 on aggregate.
2017 NYCFC Regular Season
NYCFC finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference with 57 points to the leader Toronto’s 69.
The story of the year is the second coming of age of Spanish international David Villa. He is the exception that proves the rule that late career European stars don’t work out so well in the MLS. Villa has been impressive in play and in team leadership. He was the league’s #2 scorer.
Italian international midfielder Andrea Pirlo (@Pirlo_official) retired at the end of the season.
NYCFC 2016
In 2016, New York City placed second in the MLS Eastern Conference, just one game behind arch-rivals, the New York Red Bulls.
In the MLS Cup Conference Semi-Finals, New York City suffered an embarrassing 0-7 loss to Toronto.
NYCFC 2015
The team’s first year was unremarkable. It was marked by controversy over the much-delayed arrival of designated players and the challenge of fitting late-career European stars into an American team during midseason of the team’s first year.
