Psychological thriller Elle by Paul Verhoeven is the French Best Foreign Language Film submission to the 89th Academy Awards to be held January 14, 2016.
MoMA film is screening Elle Thursday, December 8, at 7:30pm. Elle opened at Film Society of Lincoln Center on November 9, 2016.
About Elle
“Elle” means “she” or “her” in French. It’s the story of Michèle LeBlanc, a tough businesswoman (Michèle Huppert). LeBlanc heads a video game company. Her passion for business also carries over into her love life.
After LeBlanc is raped in her home, she tracks down her attacker in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
The film premiered in competition for the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It didn’t win, but received critical acclaim.
