Disobedience Festivals
Disobedience premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2017.
It screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2018.
The film is a Bleecker Street release.
Sebastián Lelio
Lelio was born in Argentina in 1974, but raised in Chile. He graduated from La Escuela de Cine de Chile (Film School of Chile).
The director started out making shorts. He then made three feature films that did well on the film festival circuit.
Gloria
Gloria (2013), about a sixty-year-old office worker who finds that being single again isn’t easy, though it can be rewarding, was Lelio’s breakthrough movie.
A Fantastic Woman
A Fantastic Woman just won the 2018 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Marina is a waitress and singer who is planning a future with her older boyfriend Orlando. When he dies suddenly after a night of celebration together, she is confronted in mourning by his family and by a society that wants to strip her of her identity.
Disobedience
Disobedience is Lelio’s first English-language film. To draw outstanding performances of characters with this complexity in another language is a major achievement. You definitely want to see what Lelio is creating next.
