Complexions Contemporary Ballet is a multicultural ballet company made up of classical ballet and contemporary dancers. The company is based in New Rochelle in Westchester, so it performs regularly in and around New York City.
Ballet was originally a European dance to classical music. It’s refreshing to see multicultural ballet danced to all kinds of music. This is American ballet. This is ballet now!

The Future of Ballet
The company has a stellar reputation. It was founded in 1994 by Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson who both danced for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ailey performances are known for leaving audiences with a distinctly spiritual feeling. Complexions has a similar character. Ailey’s spirituality derives from the African American experience. Complexions’ spirituality derives from its vision of our shared future.
The company has dancers originally from Colombia, Italy and the USA. It’s a well-rounded company.
As a classical art, ballet tends to look backwards, but Complexions Contemporary Ballet sees another future where everyone is included from the very beginning.
