The Buck Moon is the July full moon.
In the United States, full moons are called by their Indigenous names. Most full moon names come from the Algonquin people of the Northeast and Canada. The Lenape Delaware who lived in what is now New York City were Algonquin.
Why It’s the Buck Moon
The July full moon is called the “Buck Moon” because this is the time of year when a buck’s (male deer) antlers grow the fastest. It means mating season is coming because bucks use their antlers to fight for dominance.
