Ana Gabriel
Ana Gabriel was born María Guadalupe Araújo in Guamúchil, Sinaloa, Mexico in 1955. Sinaloa has a strong music culture. Banda is from there. Gabriel’s peak years were the 1980s and 1990s, but she has continued to produce hit records. She doesn’t sing flamenco, but her voice has the sound of the flamenco cry in it.
Winning the OTI Festival in 1986 led to Gabriel’s breakthrough album “Tierra de Nadie” (Sony Music, 1988). “Quién Como Tú” (1991) was nominated for a “Best Latin Pop Performance” Grammy.
“Tradicional” (2005) and “Dos Amores Un Amante” (2006) were nominated for “Best Ranchero Album” Latin Grammys. “Arpegios de Amor: Requiem por Tres almas” (2008) was nominated for “Best Female Pop Vocal Album.”
Gabriel won Lo Nuestro Awards for “Best Regional Mexican Female Artist” in 1999 and 2000. She won an “Excellence Award” in 2006.
