The International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC is at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center, Wednesday – Sunday, August 8 – 12, 2018.
The Festival features Costa Rican, French, French – Canadian and Puerto Rican puppet shows. In the grand tradition of puppetry, the shows are for children and clever adults.
The Festival is produced by Teatro SEA and The Morán Group. It is not related to the Fringe Festival. Teatro SEA is NYC’s bilingual Latino children’s theatre. The Morán Group is the side project of Teatro SEA’s CEO Dr. Manuel A. Morán. They produce truly world-class productions with an international creative team.
International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC 2018
The Festival’s first year brings Costa Rican, French, French-Canadian & Puerto Rican puppet companies to New York City.
It’s all happening at various theaters in the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural & Educational Center in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
The Puppetry Guild of Greater New York is hosting Puppet Cabaret nights on Friday and Saturday, August 10 – 11, at 11 pm.
On Saturday, August 11, puppet artists will talk with the audiences. There is also an Artist Symposium for puppet company directors.
Abrazo Interno Gallery and LES Gallery at The Clemente are exhibiting Puerto Rican and Cuban puppet art along with works by Teatro SEA artists and from Teatro SEA’s world puppet collection August 8 – 12, from 11 am – 11 pm.
The Ganesha puppet in the Festival’s key image is very appropriate. Ganesha is the Hindu remover of obstacles, patron of arts and sciences, and god of intellect and wisdom. We can all use a little of that.
