Catalan Jesús Carmona is one of the most charismatic stars of the new generation of Spanish flamenco dancers who carry flamenco traditions into our postmodern world.
Jesús Carmona: Amator at Lincoln Center Out of Doors
Carmona brings his Amator Spanish flamenco show to Lincoln Center Out of Doors at Damrosch Park in Lincoln Center on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 7:30pm (Doors 6:30pm). FREE
Brooklyn-based Arooj Aftab opens with her unique style of Pakistani/North Indian Sufi alternative rock.
This is smart curating. Most of us think of flamenco as Spanish from Andalucia, but the origins of flamenco are among the Romani people of Northern India. They were traveling court musicians, and still live in India. Flamenco absorbed influences all along the journey from Northern India to Southern Spain. So mixing flamenco with Sufi music of Pakistan/Northern India is spot on. ¡Bravo!
Seating is first-come, first-serve and these shows fill up. For seating, we recommend you arrive an hour before the doors open. But not to worry, many people enjoy shows from the plaza surrounding the stage in Damrosch Park.
