Carolina Herrera is a Venezuelan-American fashion designer who was so well dressed when she came to New York, the Editor of Vogue suggested she design. Now she dresses first ladies.
You would think Herrera was born into this, and in a way she was (una niña bien, a rich girl), but she made herself through her own good taste.
Herrera started working in fashion in her native Caracas, Venezuela. When she came to New York in 1980, she made the “Best Dressed List” and ran with the Andy Warhol and Studio 54 crowds. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Diana Vreeland suggested she design. She did in 1981 and the brand grew.
In 1986, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis asked her to design Caroline Kennedy’s wedding dress. That led to Herrera’s bridal collection. Since then Herrera has dressed Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and even Melania Trump.
In 2001, Herrera introduced CH Carolina Herrera which is a simpler ready-to-wear lifestyle collection.
Herrera has the best taste in fashion. Today anything goes, but Carolina Herrera knows how to make a woman into a lady.

Carolina Herrera Fall 2017
Legendary Peruvian photographer Mario Testino shot Carolina Herrera’s Fall 2017 campaign. He told the story of Herrera’s signature gowns and white shirts for the season by composing models Lily Aldridge, Grace Elizabeth, and Maria Borges in family portraits.
Herrera makes sophistication look simple. The white shirts with leather accents bring traditional style up-to-date.
Testino captures Lily and Grace just before they head out for a glamorous night on the town.
