This is not someone else’s library. It’s our library. It’s a rose growing right up through the concrete of Black and Spanish Harlem.

Reopening Ceremony and Storytime
The 125th Street Library, the New York Public Library in “El Barrio” East Harlem, reopens after a complete renovation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by storytime; at 224 East 125th St, in East Harlem, Manhattan; on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 10am. FREE.
It’s all new with an elevator, a teen center, children’s library, new restrooms, new technology, and heating and cooling systems.
Thank you to the Mayor, City Council, Manhattan Borough President, and private donors. This is so important to our community. Our kids are going to discover their future here.
About the 125th Street Library
The 125th Street Library is the New York Public Library in East Harlem, “El Barrio.” It first opened in 1904, but after a complete renovation, reopened in 2024.
The Library has books in both English and Spanish. It has a special “Harlem Community Collection” of African American writing and culture. It also has a College and Career Pathways section which helps you chart a path for success.
