December 2019 is New York City’s busy holiday season. The season starts in November before Thanksgiving Weekend.
The December holidays are Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s. Christmas is the world’s most popular Latin holiday.
There are holiday markets in Columbus Circle, Grand Central Terminal, Bryant Park and Union Square.
There are holiday windows all over. The most famous are at Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales.
There’s the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, and the world’s largest menorahs near Central Park and Prospect Park, Brooklyn.
There’s the Winter’s Eve holiday festival and Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights Christmas Lights.
Indoors there is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, New York City Ballet’s Nutcracker, Paul Winter’s Winter Solstice Celebration, Handel’s Messiah at NY Philharmonic and Trinity Church, the Metropolitan Opera’s Magic Flute, and Chris Botti’s annual holiday residency.
Outdoors there is ice skating in Central Park, Rockefeller Center, and the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District. The Holiday Train Show is at the New York Botanical Garden.
All of New York City becomes a winter wonderland.
